Engage

The 'Engage' driver training programme

Learning to drive is a life-skill and should be taken seriously. Many young drivers learn to pass the test, rather than actually learn to drive. This may mean that they initially spend less on driving lessons but, without the proper skills and experience to deal with different road situations they are more likely to be involved in an accident.

Learning to deal with the many different traffic situations you will encounter on the road plays an essential part in becoming a good driver. This experience is best gained with the help of an experienced driving instructor sitting next to you, rather than finding out the hard way on your own.

‘Engage’ is an award-winning educational training programme for young drivers launched in Somerset, which aims to turn you into a good driver through coaching and self-evaluation skills. Self-evaluation will enable you to have a more realistic idea of your driving capabilities and allow you to develop your problem-solving skills.

All of the instructors in the Engage programme have received specialist training, they have learned about the role of the ‘coach’ and how to create and maintain a learning environment that reduces student anxiety. Your relationship with your instructor/coach should be one of equals where you both work closely together in a non-judgemental environment to optimise learning.

‘Engage’ is a new learner centred approach to driving tuition delivering a high standard of driver education and improving road safety for novice drivers. The Engage programme has been accredited by People First, the skills sector that covers driving. If you want to find your nearest instructor please click here. All Engage programme trained ADIs will display an Engage sticker on the back of their car.
