St Patrick's Day

13 Mar 2017

March 17th is St Patrick’s Day. He’s the patron saint of Ireland, but celebrating him has been embraced the world over, thanks to the Irish diaspora. For many people, it’s a great reason to sink a few stouts or Irish whiskeys and enjoy the craic with friends and family.

Make sure you plan ahead. Along with your “kiss me I’m Irish” t shirt, shamrock glasses and leprechaun hat, get yourself a designated driver for the ride home. In the morning, be aware that you may well be a few potcheens over the limit. Having a full Irish breakfast won’t get rid of the alcohol any quicker, though a strong coffee and plenty of water may make you feel less bad. It takes an hour to process each unit of alcohol that you’ve consumed, so you may need to organise alternate transport to work or college the next day.

If you’re out on the roads, be aware that revellers may well be distracted, have impaired reactions and poor decision making skills. Keep your speed down and expect the unexpected.
