On Ya Bike
Life saving advice for young riders
About On Ya Bike
“Hitting the Road” is a DVD forming part of a brand new road safety initiative called “On Ya Bike”. The programme will provide significant benefits to students, parents and college welfare teams alike and is available free of charge to colleges and sixth forms.
Somerset Road Safety already works closely with some sixth form and further education colleges across the county to ensure the student welfare programmes include travelling to and from the colleges safely; particularly those using mopeds or motorcycles.
We encourage the use of mopeds or motorcycles as a cost effective way for students to travel, providing it is done safely. However, this choice of transport is often made without a full understanding of either the benefits, or the pitfalls, for both the student and their parent or guardian.
With the cost of motoring on the increase, students are seeking the cheapest option to facilitate their travel to a place of education or even work. This may well be a moped or similar, which can still be a safe option, IF done correctly.
