About Advanced riding
Advanced riding groups have a significant part to play in encouraging riders to improve their safety. Volunteers help encourage riders to adopt a systematic approach and defensive riding techniques, to improve their overall riding skills and safety. Many groups have a flourishing social scene that compliments their training ethos.
There are two principal national groups that promote advanced riding, each of which also have local groups:
- Institute of Advanced Motorists
IAM RoadSmart - Cheddar Valley Advanced Motorcyclists
CVAM – a local IAM group - Somerset Advanced Motorcyclists
SAM – a local IAM group - RoSPA Advanced Riders and Drivers
RoADaR - Devon and Somerset Advanced Riders
DSAR – a local RoADaR group
